Rocky Mount’s Downtown Renaissance Continues with New Mixed-Use Development

Rocky Mount’s commitment to downtown revitalization continues as new projects breathe life into historic spaces, promoting economic growth and enhancing the city’s appeal. The latest development proposal at 101-111 NE Main Street is set to further transform the heart of the city, bringing a mix of residential and commercial opportunities.

Epstein Properties, a 100% minority-owned firm led by IT professionals-turned-developers Krishna Battula and Anuja Yerra, has secured approval to redevelop this key downtown property. With a history of successfully developing multifamily properties across multiple counties, the duo’s vision for Rocky Mount aligns with the city’s broader revitalization efforts. According to Battula, “this mixed-use redevelopment will introduce five market-rate apartments and four retail spaces, with the flexibility to accommodate a larger commercial tenant such as a restaurant.”

The city’s economic momentum is further supported by strategic investments aimed at ensuring business growth and sustainability. The renovation project, which recently received recognition from city officials, is part of a larger initiative to modernize downtown while maintaining its historic charm. Mayor Sandy Roberson emphasized the importance of these projects, stating, “We are fostering an environment where businesses can thrive, attract new residents, and create a vibrant downtown district.”

Architects and contractors working on the project have extensive experience in Rocky Mount’s downtown revitalization, having collaborated on over a dozen projects in the area. Their expertise ensures that the redevelopment will be executed with careful consideration of both modern functionality and historic preservation. A project representative noted, “Our goal is to create a space that meets the needs of today’s residents and businesses while respecting the architectural integrity of downtown.”

This project represents another milestone in Rocky Mount’s ongoing transformation. By leveraging private investment and city-backed initiatives, the city continues to create an environment where business owners, developers, and residents can contribute to a thriving downtown. As these efforts take shape, Rocky Mount reaffirms its dedication to fostering economic development while preserving the character and history that make the city unique.
